Select few have been associated with Lux – Katrina Kaif

Bolywood actresses Katrina Kaif has joined hands with celebrities Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra as the new brand ambassador for Lux and she thinks it is only a selected lot to have had the “honour”.

Katrina has been roped in as the face of the Lux Purple Lotus & Cream, a soap infused with anti-ageing properties.

“I don’t think every actress in Bollywood has been associated with Lux. A select few actresses, who they felt suited the brand right (have been associated with it) and they all have been actresses of great stature with wonderful careers and some wonderful work,” Katrina told IANS over phone from Dubai Sunday evening.

“I am very honoured to join the group of people who have been with Lux over the years,” she added.

The new commercial has been shot in Bangkok and directed by Marco. While Katrina has been styled by fashion designer Rocky S for the ad, the music has been composed by trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan also endorses Lux with wife Aishwarya.

Rs.80 lakh theft in Hema Malini’s home

Mumbai, Cash and gold jewellery worth nearly Rs.80 lakh (Rs.8 million) were stolen from film actor Hema Malini’s house here, police said Sunday.

The actor came to know about the theft Sunday. The house in northwest Mumbai was burgled Saturday, an official of Dindoshi police station said.

Police said a security guard and a domestic help have been detained for questioning.

Bachchans to skip Holi celebrations this year too

The Bachchan family is going to give Holi celebrations a miss this year too, due to the death of a close relative of family friend Amar Singh and the recent Pune blast, which killed 17 people.

“We do not celebrate again this year. Primarily because of the death of a close relative of our family friend Amar Singhji, but also we do not feel comfortable in celebrating when our own have lost lives in the Pune blast recently,” megastar Amitabh Bachchan posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com Saturday night, from his Prateeksha residence.

The first family of Bollywood also skipped the festival celebrations last year as a mark of respect to the 26/11 terror attack victims and did not celebrate the same in 2008 due to Amitabh’s mother Teji Bachchan’s

The 67-year-old actor, however, did greet his fans for the festival.

“My wishes and those of my family remain, however, with those that do bring in this festival, a festival that fills us with the joy of achievement and change and produce,” Big B wrote.

“Happy Holi! And may the colours bright and beautiful ever remain with you in celebration. May it bring peace and calm and may it become the turning point for good tidings,” he added.

List of winners of 55th Filmfare Awards 2009

Mumbai, (BollywoodWorld.com) Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan were cited as best actor and best actress respectively at the star-studded 55th Filmfare Awards ceremony here late Saturday.

Bachchan won the award for his role in “Paa”, while Vidya Balan claimed the trophy for her role in the same movie. As Bachchan was not present in the ceremony, Vidya Balan took the award on his behalf.

Hosting the gala night were Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan, whose one liners had the audience in splits. Their on-stage chemistry was much appreciated by the Bollywood stars present at the ceremony at the Yash Raj Studios.

“3 Idiots” was declared the best film, while Rajkumar Hirani claimed the best director award for the movie.

A.R. Rahman won the best music director for “Delhi 6″.

Mohit Chauhan won the award for the best male playback singer for the song “masakali” from the movie “Delhi 6″, while the female playback singer honours were shared by Kavita Seth and Rekha Bhardwaj.

While Kavita was awarded for the song “Ik tara” from the movie “Wake Up Sid”, Rekha won the trophy for the song “Genda phool” from the movie “Delhi 6″.

Among the other highlights of the evening was a tribute to legendary pop singer Michael Jackson by Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who charmed the audience with his perfect dance moves.

Holi- A subdued affair this year in Bollywood

Frankly, no one is really in a mood to celebrate Holi in a big way. The lack of enthusiasm this year has plenty to do with the way things are going for the entertainment industry.

An actor on condition of anonymity puts the situation in a nutshell. "Earlier we had grand Holi celebrations in at least 5-6 major filmy families. Now it's dwindled to just 1 or 2 Holi bashes."

In the past, film folks had a blast .The film industry chose to celebrate Holi either at Raj Kapoor's Holi bash(by far the most well-attended), followed by the Bachchans' warm open-house Holi festivities. Then there were Subhash Ghai, Yash Chopra and the Azmis, Javed and Shabana who hosted and continue to host the annual Holi bash.

But the colourful spirit of Holi went out with Raj Kapoor. The true champion of filmy Holi bashes at R.K Studios in Chembur used to be a riot of colours and festivity every Holi. The entire film industry and all their kith and kin would arrive in spotless white to be dunked into the famous RK colour tank.

Now the equations have changed drastically. Since the passing away of Raj Kapoor there's no Holi at RK Studios any more. The family's superstar-scion Ranbir Kapoor is busy shooting in the US . The rest of the family is no mood for Holi. Holi at the Bachchans is also expected to be a subdued close family affair with little or no shor-sharaaba.

Even Akshay Kumar who generally loves the Holi revelry is heading out of Mumbai this weekend. "Just me, my wife and son driving out of the city," says Akshay implying there's little joy in being home for Holi this year.

Akshay has a point. Holi ceased to be a source of fun long ago. As Shabana Azmi puts it, "The state must ensure safety and protection for women and men must make sure that the day of celebration doesn't turn into an occasion for mourning."

Urmila Matondkar, however, is not daunted by the safety factor. "Holi isn't unsafe for women provided you're cautious and play Holi with people who are known to you. In any case I'm not much into Holi , bhang and masti."

For Shabana the Holi spirit never dies. "It's always an open house for friends and family on the occasion of Holi at my parents' home in Janki Kutir. There's a generous flow of non-toxic colours, gaana-bajaana, and khaana...a long-standing tradition in our house as part of India's ganga-jumna tehzeeb."
