Bipasha Basu was allegedly harassed by the owner of a five-star hotel where she was staying as she refused to attend his birthday party. The actor, in town to launch her fitness DVD, was staying at the Hotel Ramada Plaza and was to attend a party to celebrate it on Friday. When she found out the party was also a birthday bash for the hotel’s chairman, Ashok Mittal, she reportedly didn’t attend.
An eyewitness said Mittal then created a ruckus outside Basu’s room.
An official statement by Shemaroo Entertainment, the production house behind the DVD, said: “It was never mentioned it was the chairman’s birthday. Due to misrepresentation of facts, we decided Bipasha won’t attend.”
Mittal differed: “Bipasha was being greedy, demanding Rs 30 lakh to attend the party... We had a contract, signed by Basu, which states she was to make an appearance at the party.” A copy of the contract is with HT.
Shemaroo paid the hotel Rs 10,40,000 in compensation. Basu said: “I don’t want to comment. Shemaroo Entertainment has given an official statement.”
