Akshay Kumar’s Chandni Chowk to China releases on January 16th 2009. But the buzz around the film is already gaining momentum. Refusing to give away too much from one of his most anticipated movies, our khiladi Akshay Kumar does tell us about working with Deepika and whether the film is truly biographical
Tell us something about Chandni Chowk to China.
It’s a movie on the journey of a cook from Chandni Chowk of Delhi to China where he is called to by his ancestors. It is the first film to behave shot on the Great Wall of China… something that even most Hollywood movies don’t get a chance to do. And I think the film is damn good. We all…from Deepika, Nikhil, Ramesh and all the cast & crew including the music directors have done a wonderful job!
Why has it taken so much time to release?
Technical problems caused a delay in the release. There were three cameras with which we shoot but one of the cameras had some issues due to which some errors happened and we had to postpone from Diwali to January.
Deepika is a relative newcomer whereas you come with a lot of experience. Do you think your jodi will work?
That depends on you! Whether you like us onscreen together or not…Deepika is a really good actress…I mean she is very young but yet she has done fight sequences in the film. And the best thing about her is she listens to the director. She doesn’t have any tantrums and all. And I hope my on screen chemistry with Deepika will work in this movie.
Akshay it is said that this film is actually based on your real life. Like your journey from Delhi-Bangkok-Mumbai. Is it true?
Yes it is quite similar but it is not inspired by my real life. Shah Rukh and I are the only actors who don’t have any fathers in the industry but yet we have reached where we have today by our own dum. So here in the film also I am playing a common man whose life changes after some instances. And how he trains himself to save the Chinese.
