2. Pakistani speedstar Shoaib Akhtar was Mahesh Bhatt�s first choice for the title role in Gangster which eventually went to Shiney Ahuja after Shoaib turned it down.
3. Kishore Kumar and his entire unit had decided to wear make-up, with a long beard, at the premiere show of BADHTI KA NAAM DADHI in Mumbai.
4. Salman Khan had played a small role in BIWI HO TO AISI before the hit big time with MAINE PYAR KIYA.

Kamal Haasan is essaying 10 roles in this film, which stars Mallika Sherawat and Asin opposite him. Haasan has written the screenplay of the film, directed by KS Ravikumar and produced by Oscar Films.

Vidya Balan to star opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Pa

The ad maverick Balki's first feature film Cheeni Kum made a dynamic dent in audience's minds. It also made him a lifelong Amitabh Bachchan fan. Having gotten masterly performances out of Tabu and the Big B in Cheeni Kum, you'd expect him to recreate the same magic in his next feature film.

But no. Balki is on to a different route for his second film. His next film entitled Pa which begins at the end of the year features real-life father-son Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. And no Tabu! This, in spite of her brilliant performance. "But that's because Pa has no room for Tabu at all. This time the story is a father-son one. Amitabh has no love interest in the film. And sorry about that. Abhishek does have a girl though." And for the first time Junior is being paired with the petite and lately out-of-sight Vidya Balan. Says Balki, "We've already approached Vidya and she's more-or-less agreed. I can see her as a pair with Abhishek, can't you?" Vidya comes into the picture through her sister Priya who works with Balki at Lintas. "In fact, it's Priya I know well. I got to know Vidya only when we started talking for Pa," says Balki.

After repeated pairing with Preity, Rani and Priyanka, Abhishek is on the look-out for fresh collaborative opportunities. Vidya Balan is someone the Bachchans have admired from the time the Big B saw her in Parineeta and then worked with her in Eklavya. The Big B had compared Vidya with his favourite actress Waheeda Rehman. Both father and son adore Waheedaji.

So is Balki looking at the prospect of directing a new pair? "I don't look at it that way. Vidya suits the role. I've known her from her ad days. Though we haven't done any ad together, she has done ads for my company Lintas."

One questions remains. Why don't encore- projects happen with Tabu even after powerhouse performances the first time? Madhur Bhandarkar's Chandni Bar and Balki's Cheeni Kum led to no second project. In fact the only directors whom Tabu has worked with more than once are Priyadarshan and Gulzar.

Chak De girl Shilpa Shukla steps into international cinema

Chak De girl Shilpa Shukla is all set to enter the international cinema with a film titled Extrospection which will be directed, written and produced by Manan Singh Kotohora. It is said that the film is based on Satyajit Ray's Charulata but set in contemporary times.

The film will be shot in New York with Shilpa playing the lead role of Charu. With all praises for Shilpa Shukla, Kotohora said that he was taken aback by the actress' performance in Khamosh Pani and Chak De India. Hence, she was his natural choice for the film.

Kotohora's another project titled When Kiran Met Karen, which is based on the issue of lesbianism, is in under post production. Extrospection is expected to go on the floors this year.

Call them cat fights or the men taking on one another, we look back at some of B-Town's famous fights and what could have been the appropriate punishment for them!

Aishwarya – Rani

During the making of Shah Rukh's Chalte-Chalte Salman and Ash were going through a rough patch. The bad boy would often turn up on the sets and cause a disruption. Fed up with the constant hassle of dealing with Sallu's anger, SRK is believed to have got Ash removed and replaced with Rani. Now what this has resulted in is a cold war for years between Ash and SRK as well as Ash and Rani who were said to be quite close when Chalte Chalte went on the floors.

Punishment - We think Ash has had the last laugh where Rani is concerned... she is after all Mrs. Abhishek Bachchan!

Kareena Kapoor-Bipasha Basu

Abbas-Mustaan's Ajnabee marked the debut of Bipasha Basu but it also laid the foundation of one of the longest running feuds in Bollywood. Kareena and Bips are said to have hated each other's guts from day one and things at one point got so bad that Bebo was heard calling Bipasha a "kalli billi"

Punishment - We think fact that Bips scored big with her bikini on screen way before Kareena must have had the Kapoor beauty squirming for the one and half year that Bebo sat at home!

Aamir Khan - Salman Khan

It's the wrong perception that only actresses have catfights. During the making of Raj Kumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna, our very own Khan brigade who acted in the movie were not talking terms with each other off-screen although onscreen they cracked us up with their antics. And till date there is no love lost between Aamir and Salman!

Punishment - We think Aamir and Salman, who are both known for being particular about their fitness, should set a date for nine rounds in the ring to settle things once and for all... this one will be a bigger hit than Andaaz Apna Apna!

Koena Mitra - Riya Sen

On the sets of Subhash Ghai's Apna Sapna Money Money Koena and Riya were constantly taking potshots at one another. It is believed that Riya leaked to the media that Koena had undergone a nose job. Obviously this didn't go down well with Koena who then went about screaming her lungs out that it wasn't her but Riya who had gone under the knife...

Punishment - We think the two need a brain transplant! Did they really think that we can't make out the times they - or for that matter any of the others - have gone under the knife...

Sharmila Tagore- Rakhee

Sharmila Tagore who was known as the Bengal tigress had a showdown with her co-star Sharmila Tagore on the sets of Daag. The sets of the movie had a battlefield like atmosphere with Sharmila having the silent support of co-actor Rajesh Khanna which left Rakhee bitter.

Punishment: We think the senior actress learnt her lesson because not only did Sharmila enjoy a longer run at the top of the box office she also managed to score a close friendship soon after Daag with Rakhee's ex Gulzar!

Where is Anurag Basu?

Ever since Anurag Basu's alleged not so polite remarks about the Big B surfaced the Life in a Metro director is nowhere to be found. From not answering text messages to refusing to pick up a call, Basu just can't be reached.

A friend of the director tells us that Anurag has been feeling the heat ever since the interview was splashed across a leading daily. "He is just not speaking to the media. Many senior actors in the field can't believe that Anurag could have said something like that. And now he is just lying low. He refuses to speak to anyone," says the friend.

The friend says that Anurag has made himself completely unavailable to the media. "He doesn't want to offer any clarification or speak about the topic. He says that his statements were distorted and he didn't say things the way they were reported. And it has him very upset."

But it's not just Anurag who is upset. Amitabh not only spoke openly about the issue to media but also wrote about it in his blog.

The Big B writes, "Anurag Basu smsed me and explains his stand that of the media distorting it or cooking it up entirely. I feel he should seek clarification from the magazine that printed his statement. I do not need any proof. Media asked me a question, I answered. The rest is really up to him to justify or not," he writes.

The friend says that Anurag has been intentionally maintaining a low profile as he hopes the issue will die down. However, with the Big B making sure that he goes into great detail about it in his blog we suggest Anurag don't hold your breath!

SRK's high hopes on forthcoming films

Shah Rukh has almost finished shooting for his next home production Billo Barber and is about to start filming for Aditya Chopra directed Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

About the movies, he says: "I have finished 50% shooting for Billo Barber and I am starting work on Adi's Rab Ne… from May 15. The film will release on December 23. Yash Raj is in the process of selecting a new girl for this role. I hope both will be liked by the audience."

He adds, "I always feel that my next year is the best year. I have worked hard for last four months and I am about to become mad so I am hoping for a good result."

About Billo Barber

The storyline of the film is based of the famous epic story of Krishna and Sudama's friendship. Shah Rukh plays a filmstar and Irrfan Khan the barbar (Billo).They are childhood friends but after growing up one becomes a star living in a city while his barbar friend lives in a small villlage.

Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are supposed to be doing hot item numbers with SRK in the film which is supposed to release next year.

The film is a remake of the super hit Malayalam flick Katha Parayumbol. Priyadarshan is directing the movie. In the original, Mammothy played the role of the star and Sreenivas the barber.

About Rab Ne…

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a love story of a 16 year old girl and a 40 year old man. SRK is going to play the latter, an NRI who comes to Punjab and is rumoured to fall in love with Sonam Kapoor,who will portay the role of the 16 year old. There is going to be twist in the end with a second girl entering. The buzz is that Deepika will play this role. Rab Ne… will be Aditya Chopra's first directorail venture in eight years. He last directed Mohabbatein (2000).

Movie Review :: Tashan

Let me tell you first. Tashan is not a Serious movie. So, First thing you have to do is to keep your brain at home lock it in the fridge to reduce the damage. Done? Still you have preoccupations like this is a Yash Raj Film and what we can expect is songs, dance, action, family drama etc.? Take a break. Remove all those pre-occupations and get ready to watch a light entertainer filled with action, drama and fun. Welcome to Tashan’s review.Hot, single and beautiful Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) is all out to get hold of eligible bachelor and playboy Jimmy Cliff (Saif Ali Khan) who speak English fluently and work in a call centre. Pooja works for Bhaiyyaji (Anil Kapoor) who is a dangerous underworld Don but illiterate. Bhaiyyaji is awaiting a group of foreign delegates and want to speak to them in English. A love affair is started between Jimmy and Pooja under the nose of Bhaiyyaji. Bhaiyyaji plan to marry Pooja where Jimmy tries to get her out of Bhaiyyaji’s clutches. Pooja is indebted to Bhaiyyaji for about half a crore rupees and cannot quit. The lovers make a plan and succeed in getting out 25 Crores of Rupees belong to the Don. Pooja cheat Jimmy and escape with the money. A skillful, talented and ambitious Guerilla from Kanpur, Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar) was bought in to search the lovers. Jimmy surrenders before Bhaiyyaji and tells his innocence. From him they got a clue that she can be in Haridwar. So, the two are assigned to get hold of Pooja and the 25 Crore Rupees. Will they meet Pooja? Why Pooja cheat Jimmy and run away with the money? Who will marry Pooja at the end? What will happen to the Underworld Don? Where those 25 Crore Rupees are hided? There are many interesting questions one can ask from this point. Watch the movie to find out the answers. It is fun. Vijay Krishna Acharya, who was part of Doom, Doom2 & Guru as a writer try his luck in Direction with Tashan. I will say this new comer director succeed in part, much thanks to the banner and the presence of great stars. The director lack perfection, but from the very beginning the movie was attempted to give a light feeling and take off the seriousness from the audience. He failed in many departments but succeeds in one, i.e. keep occupying audience to the screen.

Anil Kapoor shown again his class and performed the humorous villain role with ease. His Ishtyle with the local dialects made his character jovial and ’katharnak’ at the same time. Akshay Kumar did his role with ease again, and the actor carried his screen presence from his previous films which helped the new director to stand on his feet. Saif Ali Khan missed the bus this time. He looks cool and performs well, but he is one actor who can reach to higher levels of acting when the role demands. His new look didn’t help either. Kareena played the seductress role well, she come out a bit bold and hot this time forget to become dolly and beautiful but the last half an hour compensated for the earlier loses and at the end she is a winner. Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Pahwa and Yashpal Sharma did their meager roles ok. Overall the performance were quite average but the screen presence of the actors salvaged the show.

Music was average. The Choreography was just ok. Falak Tak is the only song which I felt excellent for its music and choreography. Brilliant! Rest all of them are just average. The great locales could not compensate for the poor colour sense of the choreographers. For example, where a blue gives an extremely brilliant look and feel a mix of green immediately wipe out the mood completely. Follows is a mix of orange and dark blue. Choreography should express the mood of the song and project the emotion. But it is not done here. The back ground music was experimental and good. The Bachchan Pande background resembled the one in Dhol, but was extremely effective.

Cinematography was very good at some places where it fall flat in many other. The action scenes, the desert and scenes at Kerala all were good but were quite ordinary in many other places. Editing could have been better. The film is censored with 17 reels, but looks like a major chop undertook before it reached theatre to restrict the length to 2 hr 30 minutes plus.

The movie can be easily labeled as a time pass which tickle your bones and leave a smile in our face. The highlight is the light treatment of the theme, Action thriller. So there is fun and curiosity with each frame. Screen Presence of Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor & Saif Ali Khan contributed much to add value.

The movie can be labeled as a cartoon style film as well at times. Akshay Kumar Magic during the fighting, which overtakes spiderman, superman and all other cartoon characters. This Khilladi fights 100s at a time - Throw down at least 15 with his one push – Climb big walls and fight from middle when 50 people fire with machine guns - kill 100s and come out as unhurt. He can run like a cheetah and escape thousands of gun shots. It is hilarious as it intended that way. When the Killadi was doing all these, Saif tried a boat flight as well where he simply fly from the sea with a boat and fire just turning down the boat. The cartoon style was a matter of good laugh.

The director wish to heat up the boys with Kareena’s 2 piece Swim suite appearance showing the flat gym body muscles. Killadi Kumar tries a Rajani number several times to get giggles from girls, but he press below the belt line.

About the drawbacks of the movie? There are many and many. There is no logic whatsoever. All departments of the film making could have been improved. But do you really wish to know all of?

In short, don’t expect a great movie. It is another light entertainer with a formula action story told in the fun format in cartoon style. Time pass, nothing more, nothing less. The movie probably will add another hit for the Jubilee Kumar who started his winning streak long back, where it is getting positive reports.
