The composer is quite thrilled about the association.”It’s always great working with YRF and even more so on something as iconic as ‘Dhoom’. It is a great feeling that the music has lived on with the franchise and the two are inseparable. ‘Dhoom machaenge’ once more,” Pritam said in a press statement.
Pritam, who is also popular for his soulful as well as peppy numbers in films like “Jab We Met”, “Life In A…Metro” and “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai”, was an obvious choice for “Dhoom 3″, says director Vijay Krishna Acharya a.k.a. Victor.

It's official: Aamir Khan will be the villain in Dhoom:3

It's official now - Aamir Khan has signed on for Yash Raj Film's 'Dhoom 3' and he's playing a villain in it. Aamir signed on for the role last night (Feb 1) after months of talks with Aditya Chopra, who first approached him with the role.

'Dhoom 3' will of course have the regulars played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. And Aamir will turn bad boy in the tradition of John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan in the first two 'Dhoom' movies.

So what made the experimental Aamir sign on for the super commercial franchise that is 'Dhoom'? Well, it seems he was very impressed with the script and also the way he his character in particular was written and also styled. The star is already working on his look in the movie with Aditya Chopra. The movie will release in late 2012.

So, what kind of villain do you think Aamir will make in 'Dhoom 3'? Think he'll top Hrithik's act in 'Dhoom 2'? Tell us what you think!

Ash-Aamir are now friends… Thanks to Akshay and Twinkle…

The long long battle between Ash and Aamir was came to a still on the anniversary party of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna.

Akshay and Twinkle celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary a couple of days ago and at the party, the bonding between Aamir and Ash was a sight to watch. They bonded at the party like nothing had ever gone wrong between them.
Differences between Ash and Aamir cropped up when the former opted out of Mangal Pandey and that too at the very last minute. At the time, Aamir had requested his good friend Rani Mukerji to step in.
According to a source, “Aishwarya had come much before Aamir arrived. Normally, Ash leaves most parties in not more than 10 minutes. However, at this one, when she learnt that Aamir and Kiran were on their way, Ash decided to wait.
When Aamir and Kiran arrived, Aishwarya met Aamir and spoke to him warmly. They discussed quite a few things including Kiran’s film Dhobi Ghat. Both Ash and Aamir were together at the party for some time but Aamir had to leave early, so he left with Kiran.”
Well, this time it was Ash who took the initiative.
The source further said, “Aamir has always been on very good terms with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and would meet up with him whenever he could. However, there has been a problem between Ash and him for the longest time, which finally seems to have ended.”
Bollywood is really on a patch up spree..

Dhobi Ghat : Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

DHOBI GHAT is an imposing and vibrant cinematic portrait, appending itself to the new wave of independent Indian cinema which I am extremely pleased to applaud. It is art house cinema with European sensibilities, embellished with a well thought out story that's devoid of cliches. This ingenious motion picture caters more to the intelligentsia and connoisseurs of world cinema and will therefore garner more patronage and benefaction from the metropolitan audience in India chiefly and global spectators predominantly.

Rating: 4/5 (Must watch movie)

What catches one's attention is the fact that DHOBI GHAT tells four different stories in those 95 minutes in the most pragmatic manner. The characters are real and so are their stories, their emotions, their relationships, their smiles, their tears, their dreams, their desires, their fears and their tragedies. It comes across as factual and authentic as your eyes would observe and witness in real life. Sure, we got a flash of the assorted people of this city in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, but DHOBI GHAT doesn't follow the conventional route. It is far more subtle and restrained.

DHOBI GHAT [Mumbai Diaries] is the story of four people from very different backgrounds, whose worlds intersect and leave them forever altered. As they find themselves drawn into compelling relationships, the city finds its way into the crevices of their lives, separating them even as it brings them closer...

Fragments of their experience -- seen through a naive video diary, black and white photographic images and painting -- form a portrait of Mumbai and its people bound together as they journey through longing, loneliness, loss and love.

Like I pointed out earlier, Kiran Rao encompasses emotions, dreams and aspirations most convincingly. In fact, every sequence of DHOBI GHAT tells a story, every image matters and that, in my opinion, makes this first attempt by Kiran nothing short of an achievement. Filmed in guerrilla style, with hand-held cameras and moving shots, DHOBI GHAT captures the real flavor of this populous city. Generally, film-makers try to stick to the right frames and procure permissions for the most eye-catching location, but not here. From opulent and classy apartments to the slums, DHOBI GHAT is an authentic piece of work.

DHOBI GHAT catapults Kiran Rao alongside the likes of accomplished storytellers like Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta with her intensely intelligent script. Besides throwing light on the daily routine of these characters, DHOBI GHAT juggles a recent past and the present time skillfully. Also, this one's a love story inherently; not a triangle, but a square. In fact, each of the characters is vividly sketched and each of them long or aspire for that someone special. Thanks to a watertight screenplay and eye for detail, Kiran's characters feel, look and sound genuine.

Cinematographer Tushar Kanti Ray shoots the film as if one were watching the story unspool live in front of one's own eyes. Academy Award winning Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla's [BROKEBACK MOUTAIN, BABEL] background score is captivating, also non-Indian, yet fits the varied moods, from melancholy to elation, admirably. The sole area where the film fumbles is its pacing at places. The results would've been even more impactful if the film was tightened a bit on the editing table.

The film marks the debut of Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra, who are exceptional and deliver natural performances. As for Prateik, the ease with which he speaks the slum lingo or converses with his pal or the gentle tone while speaking to the woman he loves [the urbane and classy Shai] proves what a dependable actor he is. The most memorable sequence for me is the concluding one when Prateik chases Shai's car. There's no doubt that he's a complete scene-stealer and a star in the making. His unconventional looks and captivating personality only adds to this performance.

Very much like his performance in TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Aamir Khan very willingly lets his co-actors eclipse him. Sure, he's super as a cloistered artist, but this film is not about Aamir Khan, the superstar. It's primarily about four stories, with Aamir merely enacting one of the four pivotal characters. In fact, he underplays his part magnificently and munificently allows his fellow cast to be conspicuous in their respective parts. In actuality, not many actors in moviedom would dare to even think that way!

Kittu Gidwani is alright. The actor enacting the role of Prateik's friend does a fine job.

On the whole, DHOBI GHAT is an imposing and vibrant cinematic portrait, appending itself to the new wave of independent Indian cinema which I am extremely pleased to applaud.

‘Dhobi Ghat’ to be released in two versions

Aamir Khan’s production venture “Dhobi Ghat”, which is the directorial debut of his wife Kiran Rao, will be released in two versions – one completely in Hindi and the other with a few scenes in English.
“The film has 8-10 scenes in English. But we realized that people who are not very comfortable with the language would be in a tough spot. So we dubbed those scenes in Hindi,” Aamir told reporters here.

“We will release the film in two versions. One will be completely in Hindi and the other will have the original English dialogues. People can choose the version they want to see,” he said.
The 45-year-old confirmed that both the versions will be released Jan 21.
When asked the reason for two versions when he could have also gone in for subtitles, the actor-producer informed: “We didn’t want to keep subtitles because a lot of people don’t like reading while seeing the film and many people can’t read, so dubbing was a better option.”
“Dhobi Ghat” that stars Aamir along with Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra, Kriti Malhotra, Kitu Gidwani and Nafisa Khan is a film about four characters from different classes of society and how their lives are interwined.
“I’m very happy for the film. Kiran has beautifully implemented what she intended to make. It’s a very different film, an arthouse film that we haven’t seen for a while.
“It’s a film about moments. Kiran has shot at real locations with a small crew, so it has a real feel about it. She has brought about the vibrancy and colour of Mumbai very well,” he added.

Peepli [Live] : Movie Review by Taran Adarsh

PEEPLI [LIVE] is sure to ride initially on the strength and credibility of its iconic actor/producer Aamir Khan and once that is achieved, the powerful content is sure to speak for itself. PEEPLI [LIVE] is a film that would not only appeal to Indians, but is sure to reach out to audiences beyond India. Simply brilliant.
When Aamir Khan produces a film, or is associated with any film in the capacity of an actor, be prepared for the unpredictable. Films like TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and 3 IDIOTS took pot shots at the education system in India and PEEPLI [LIVE], directed by Anusha Rizvi, is a tongue-in-cheek satire on the farmers' suicides and the role of vote-hungry politicians and the over-enthusiastic, TRP-seeking desperate electronic media jostling for eyeballs.

Come to think of it, the concept [farmers' suicides] would instinctively translate into a serious, thought-provoking film. But PEEPLI [LIVE] takes a grim and solemn issue, turns it into a satire, garnishes it with populist sentiment and makes a far greater impact than a mere documentary, had it tackled the burning issue. In fact, like all Aamir Khan films, PEEPLI [LIVE] marries realism with a winning box-office formula most brilliantly.

A sad fact of our society is that bad news attracts instant attention. In PEEPLI [LIVE], an impoverished man offers to commit suicide so that his family can benefit from a government grant - a dark subject matter which is dealt with in a delightfully humorous manner. In fact, it's a terrific satire about a troubled India, the shining India, the industrialised India that's rarely depicted on the Hindi screen.

PEEPLI [LIVE] focuses on the poorest of the poor in India and it not only highlights the plight of a farmer in a tiny corner of a giant country, but also throws light on the varied people who exploit the situation to their advantage, right from the politicians to the bureaucrats to the television reporters to the local people. In fact, PEEPLI [LIVE] makes a scathing attack on the functioning of media in India and how media persons, depicted as vultures, generally stoop to the lowest levels to increase the ratings of their television channel/show.

The best part is that at no point does the film gets preachy or starts offering solutions to the grave issue. It's a mere tool that the makers have used to discuss bureaucracy, the rural and urban divide and lack of concern of the administration.

Final word? This tragi-comedy, a brilliant satire, is not to be missed.

Natha [Omkar Das Manikpuri], a poor farmer from Peepli village in the heart of rural India, is about to lose his plot of land due to an unpaid government loan. A quick fix to the problem is the government's program that aids the families of indebted farmers who have committed suicide. As a means of survival, Natha chooses to die. His brother [Raghubur Yadav] is happy to push him towards this unique honour.

Local elections are around the corner and what might've been another unnoticed event turns into a cause célèbre, with everyone wanting a piece of the action. Political bigwigs, high-ranking bureaucrats, local henchmen and the ever-zealous media descend upon sleepy Peepli to stake their claim. Natha's mother [Farrukh Jaffer] screams at his wife [Shalini Vatsa], while his young son urges papa to go through with the suicide so he can use the money to become a policeman.

One TV journalist, in a desperate search for a new angle, tries to examine Natha's faeces to determine his emotional state. Nobody seems to care how Natha really feels.

PEEPLI [LIVE] tells the story of today: Rural society, the games politicians play, the bureaucracy and the manipulative electronic media. It's a well penned and well executed film that deals with a serious issue in a witty and entertaining manner. Although very real, it creates a world full of vivid characters and incidents and keeps the viewer engrossed throughout.

Aamir, SRK or Sanjay? Who will host Bigg Boss 4?

After Amitabh Bachchan announced that he will be hosting the fourth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati? for Sony, the officials of Colors are busy trying to fill his place in the fourth season of Bigg Boss. The buzz in the industry is that their first choice is Aamir Khan, who is yet to host any show on television. However, Aamir has rejected their initial offer. The channel officials have now apparently raised their offer, hoping Aamir will agree.

Meanwhile, they have also made overtures to Shah Rukh Khan. But even if SRK does agree, it will cost Colors heavily, as they will have to remunerate him to break his contract with Star Plus and match his high fee for every episode he hosts.

Colors has also approached Sanjay Dutt, but if rumours are to be believed, Sanjay has refused the offer as he feels the remuneration is not worth the trouble.

Arshad Warsi and Shilpa Shetty have hosted the first two seasons of Bigg Boss respectively.
