37 years later, Big B film to release

Yaar Meri Zindagi with Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha went on the floors three decades ago, and is finally releasing on April 11.

Director Ashok Gupta took over the reins from Mukul Dutt who left the film in 1976. Gupta says, “I took over the film in 1993. It’s because of producer AK Mishra that the film’s release has been possible.”

When asked if Bachchan was open to the idea of releasing the dated film, the director says, “Not really.

In fact, it was Shatrughan Sinha who was more forthcoming and readily gave us his dates on completion. Mr Bachchan hasn’t been in touch with any of us over the release. We tried to get in touch but there was no response from him.”

But the Big B is aware of the film’s release and says, “It has changed several titles since we worked on it and yes, it has probably been 37 years!”

Is he looking forward to seeing a younger Bachchan on screen? The actor says, “It’s always a welcome sight to see how one looked spoke and moved years ago.”

AK Mishra, who’s releasing the film, sheds light on the film releasing so late, “There were a couple of hassles we faced during the release. At that time, both Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha weren’t that big stars. After Anand released and became a hit, Mr Bachchan got busy with his other films.”
