Priyanka: Don't ask me about Harman

Yes Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja have called it quits. And yes PC and co-star Shahid Kapoor are said to be getting quite close to one another. But right now we are only talking about an on-screen lip lock between Shahid and Priyanka. The Desi girl who likes to play the straight and narrow is planning to go full throttle in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminay. She has agreed for a lip lock and a love making scene in the script.

“I can’t really give you all the details but yes I have done a little bit more than usual in this film. I do have a kiss with Shahid and also some love making scenes in this film with Shahid,” admits Priyanka.

Priyanka was earlier approached for a kissing scene opposite ex-Beau Harman Baweja in Love Story 2050 which she had shot down right at the start. Even in Fashion where she does have some intimate scenes with Arbaaz Khan and Arjan Bajwa, the actress had asked for director Madhur Bhandarkar to tone down the scenes. But now for Shahid it looks like Priyanka has a whole new set of rules!

When asked if this had anything to do with her newly acquired single status, the actress simply says, "Don't ask me about Harman. I haven't spoken about my personal life earlier. And I won't do it now."

The actress seems to be in awe of her director Vishal who has managed to extract such a bold sequence from her.

“Vishal Bharadwaj is known as a serious filmmaker. But I enjoyed working with him the most! It's a very good experience to work with this whole new star cast,” says Chopra.

Bottom 10 Debuts of 2008!

They came with a bang - the bang of the boxoffice window shutting. Alas, Bollywood is cruel and very few make it big with their first movie. Here's the list of those who didn't - but might this year. Hey, Bollywood's about making the impossible possible.

Harman Baweja
Harman Baweja:

He had the chick, he had the flick and he had the name. Ok, maybe he didn't have the name. But he certainly had hottie Priyanka Chopra (his girlfriend) and a supposedly big budget movie to launch him. But it launched him into space, where nobody saw him. Love Story 2050 was a sci fi flick about the future - and might well be seen in the future. But in the fierce urgency of now, it is a spectacular dud. Enough to be No 1 on our list of dabba debuts of the year. This year, Harman had lost the wanna-be Hrithik look and even briefly changed his name to Hurman. We hope this works for him.

Nikhil Diwedi
Nikhil Diwedi:
He claimed SRK was his mentor. Of course he was no such thing. Par bolne mein kya harj hai? Not that it helped his movie any. Nikhil's debut My Name is Anthony Gonsalves turned out to be Kholi Number 420. His girl in the movie was Amrita Rao, who's faring little better than he is. This year Nikhil might have a movie ready Khalbali, but that word might well be used to describe the unease of distributors stampeding away from Mr Divedi.

Ejaz Khan
Ejaz Khan:
One of the great Khans of Bollywood he ain't. TV boy Ejaz didn't do too well on the small screen, and was an equal opportunity player on the big screen as well. He debuted in Mandira (where's she by the way?) Bedi's Meera Bai Not Out, which was actually out clean bowled on the first ball. Nobody liked him in the movie and his hope is that he still has enough equity to return to TV. He was in Kya hoga Nimmo ka? with Sanjeeda Shaikh. Now the question is: Kya hoga Ejaz ka?

Sonal Chouhan
Sonal Chouhan:
Model Sonal turned actress and debuted opposite the serial kisser of Bollywood Emraan Hashmi in Jannat. Copious amounts of sex gave the film a boost at the box office. Sadly, none of this success rubbed off on Sonal despite a lot of rubbing against Emraan. What next for Sonal? She is a former Miss World Tourism (2005) before she was a model and that shows a certain amount of ambition. Here's hoping the Bhatt camp gives her another chance.

Adhyayan Suman
Adhyayan Suman:
Blabbermouth Shekhar Suman's son Adhyayan piloted a spectacular crash with Haal-e-Dil. The big controversy before the movie was: who was the hero? It is I, said young Adhyayan. It is I, said the also young Nakuul Mehta. After the movie came out, both of them must have wanted to disown it. Fortunately, though Adhyayan (who stays with his parents) found more space in the news after he began loving lovely Kangana Ranaut (whose choice of men - first Aditya Panscholi and now Adhyayan - merits a book). Now he has a second chance to show his mettle with Raaz-TMC coming out this month and also starring Kangana.

Mimoh Chakraborty
Mimoh Chakraborty:
Mahakshay Chakraborty was nicknamed MiMoh for his father's two favourite entertainers: Michael Jackson and Mohammed Ali. But he could neither float like a butterfly nor sting like a bee in his totally dabba debut: Jimmy. He lacks the raw power that papa Mithun had in his early movies, neither does he have the endearing quality of mama Yogita Bali. Salman Khan came for his music launch, Madhuri came for his premier. Alas, the audience did not show up for the movie.

Kaveri Jha
Kaveri Jha:
Kaveri Jha is a southern actress famous for her role in Nagaram opposite Jagapathi (no, we don't know either). But in Bollywood, she became Kaveri Jha-ja-ja as the kabootars and everybody else fled from her debut movie Hijack. One of the funniest movies made last year, funny for the wrong reasons, Kaveri was done in by a virtuoso performance from space cadet Esha Deol. Not to mention the fact that she was not even mentioned in the movie's promotion. Kaveri has another chance now: Priyadarshan's Bum Bum Bhole, which we assure you is not what you think it is.
.
Amita Pathak
Amita Pathak:
Trainwreck Haal-e-Dil put paid to the blooming ambition of many a Bollywood bud. Amita was one of them. She needed some acting lessons, but her larger problem is that she looks like an aunty from Gurgaon. She says Ajay Devgan is protective of her as a brother would be. Now's a good time for him to show his affection and get her some work.

Advik Mahajan
Advik Mahajan:
With a name like a pesticide Advik was a Ram Gopal Verma find. Yes, you know exactly what that means: oblivion. And that's where poor Advik went after his debut, Contract, got him no contracts. But hold on, Ramu always gives his heroes a second chance. Problem for Advik is: he doesn't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Sikandar
Sikandar:
Now here's a boy who actually rejects his star name. Ok, whatever star name there is in Anupam Kher. Sikandar chooses to be known only by his first name and we doff our imaginary hat to him for that. His debut was Woodstock Villa, from the production house of Sanjay Gupta. Was it good? Was it bad? Er, we cannot tell you because nobody saw it. But here's what: because he's related to Anupam and Kirron, he'll get another chance. Now isn't that sweet?

The cricket fraternity backed my film 'Victory', says director

Mumbai, Dec 30 (IANS) It's not every day that Indian and international cricket stars come together to act in a Bollywood movie and what is even more rare is that they slash their fees, some taking not even a penny, as happened with 'Victory'.

'The real cricketers know we aren't faking it. 'Victory' hasn't been shot at one stadium masquerading as several stadiums. We've gone all over the world to various venues for cricket and shot with real cricketers. That's why our national cricketers are willing to stand by the film without charging a single penny in this day and age when free meals are a dream,' says the director of the film, Ajitpal Mangat.

He also admits the cricketers cost a bomb when they act. 'They don't come cheap. They cost. And every cricketer's fee is different. Most cricketers I've used in the film realised their advertisement rates wouldn't work for me. The real-life cricketers aren't used in my film as a marketing gimmick. Still you've to pay them what they want. Or they don't work with you. But the ones that worked with me spread the good word.'

Ajitpal had to work his schedules around the cricketers. 'They are very busy. So we had to work our schedules around these cricketers' diaries. But the support I've received from the cricket fraternity is amazing. And the cricket boards were really cooperative. They felt 'Victory' could inspire our youngsters to play cricket.'

The director rues the fact that barring 'Chak De! India' there have been no significant sports films. 'And the films on cricket in this country are woefully inadequate.'

Ajitpal doesn't see the IPL matches coming in the way of 'Victory'. 'IPL is sports drama, not drama. 'Victory' tells us what happens to Sachin Tendulkar off the field when he's out for zero.'

Harman Baweja stars with Amrita Rao in 'Victory', which is scheduled to release Jan 30.

Flop Movies, Hot Songs

2008 saw numerous movies release. And if not all, but most crashed burned at the box office. But though these movies sank at the BO, their songs have set the stage on fire and have enjoyed much more popularity than the films they belong to.
Take a look:

yuvvraaj salman khan katrina
Tu Hi Meri Dost Hain from Yuvvraaj: Gulzar's poetic lyrics and AR Rahman's evergreen melodies make a killer combination. Tu hi meri dost hain had such sweet lyrics like aaja mein hawaaon mein bitha ke le chalu tu hi toh meri dost hain. It is a declaration of love but it gives so much importance to friendship. The song has such a pure, lilting, soothing, and uplifting melody which is so refreshing in these times of beat oriented hip-hop infused tracks. And then Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghoshal have beautifully rendered the song. Your mind is filled with images of picture perfect Katrina romancing a bespectacled handsome Salman in the picturesque locales of Austria when you listen to the song. The super hit song kept playing in your head till you heard it and you even trekked to the theatre to see it but you came back utterly disappointed because the ethereal music was wasted in a lackadaisical film which was a gigantic failure at the BO.

krazy 4 Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan
Break Free and Krazzy 4 from Krazzy 4: Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan. Both stylish superstars, both excellent dancers and SRK's jalwa and Hrithik's elastic dance moves made both the videos smash hits. Sung by the versatile and talented Vishal Dadlani of composer duo Vishal-Shekhar, the song had people grooving to its catchy beat and singing Do it anyway, just put the K, say K.R.A.Z.Z.Y and Break Free, gotta get some trophy, tod do deewaron ko, break free ab kholo mutthi, chheen lo duniya se more. The foot-tapping songs, never mind if the tune is lifted from the Sony Thump ad are a rage in clubs even now thought the movie sank without a trace.

Karzzzz Himesh
Tandoori nights from Karzzzz: No matter how the movie fares, Himesh catchy tunes always become a rage with listeners. Tandoori Nights makes no sense except if it is used to promote special Tandoori nights at a restaurant but it makes for easy listening; tanha tandoori nights, if loving you is wrong, I don't wanna be right, Rabba Rabba meri jaan jale…Tak…taana.nanaa Tandoori Nights are lyrics that will find yourself humming. Sung in Himesh's trademark joshila style with the versatile Sunidhi ably supporting him, the song has a great, laid back tune which you can move your body too. Love it or hate it, you can't ignore it. Sadly, the hit songs of Karzzzz couldn't salvage it from being panned by audiences and critics alike. Himesh should stick to singing and composing.

ugly aur pagli
Talli from Ugly aur Pagli: The song is a rage at clubs simply because everyone goes clubbing to get drunk out of their wits, in short to get talli. And the ladies love dancing to it as the steps are really easy. It is a fun song with relatable lyrics like Patiali peg chadhake/ teri galli vich aake/ such dukh chain gawake/ Deewani/main pagal/ main talli ho gayi/ main talli/main talli/main talli ho gayi, a great video shot in a club with Mallika, Ranvir and the singers, Hard Kaur, Mika and Anmol. The song was a great debut for Anmol Malik, composer Anu Malik's daughter. The song will continue to be in demand but the same cannot be said of the flop film's DVD.

god tusi great ho salman khan amitab
Aksa Beach from God Tussi Great Ho: Personally, I am not a big fan of this pick up line song with pedestrian lyrics Tujhe Aksa Beach ghuma lu/aa chalti kya. But people do like it and like dancing to it as well. It is a funny song and that Aai haai/aai haai haai part will get stuck in your head. Salman and Priyanka look pretty cute in the video. People ignored the movie but couldn't ignore the silly straightforwardness of this unique song. It is the perfect song for Roadside Romeos.

lovestory 2050
Milo Na Milo from Love Story 2050: Priyanka's red hair and Harman's killer Hrithik-like dance moves worked for this song. And how can we forget the futuristic sets replete with robots? And it is something that every girl wants to hear, Milo na milo/ main milne aa unga/kaho na kaho/ main kehta jaunga and the futuristic tune sure made a mark. The mega movie disappeared but the song's still around.

golmaal ajay devgan Kareena kapoor
Tha Karke from Golmaal Returns: We have no idea what Tha Karke means but lag jaa gale se aaja tha karke is a huge hit. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar who has belted hits like Hare Krishna Hare Ram and Aai paapi, the tune is very catchy, mainly because it has shades of Daddy Yankee's Gasolina (Bollywood loves this song) and Shakira's Hips don't lie. The video is killer with cars being blown up and people running around explosions. And Kareena looks hotter than ever in her hot pants. It is a masaledaar Bollywood song. Golmaal Returns is a hit alright but some people who hated the movie really like this song along with Vacancy.

tashan kareena kapoor
Chhaliya from Tashan: An emerald bikini clad Kareena emerging like a Goddess from the Grecian waters, all her killer dance moves and the confident, femme fatale attitude that she oozes throughout the song has made the song a hit. The song has an uncanny tune and with Sunidhi's vocals, it better be a hit. Haath na aau mein hoo aisi chhaliya/ mein noor hu/mein hoor hu/ bachke jaayega kaha. I think every girl wants to have that kind of mystery, enigma and confidence. The movie was the first disaster of 2008 but songs like Dil dance Maare, Dil Haara and Chhaliya keep growing on us with every listen.

kismat konection Shahid Kapur Vidya Balan
Ba Khuda from Kismat Konnection: The movie was a disappointment coming from Aziz Mirza but did decent business at the BO. The success of the songs is a different story altogether. After the stupendous success of Woh Lamhe, Tere Bin and Pehli Nazar Mein, Atif Aslam sang love anthem Ba Khuda in his silky voice and was ably supported by the sweet voiced Alka Yagnik. With lyrics like Ba Khuda tumhi ho/ har jagah tunhi ho/tumho jeena ka maksad/aur vajah tumhi ho how can anyone not like the song? Even hip hop track Aai Paapi featuring Shahid's flexible dance routine is a song people love to dance to.

Bachna ae Haseeno from Bachna ae Haseeno Deepika
Bachna ae Haseeno from Bachna ae Haseeno: The Ranbir Kapoor song rekindled memories of the evergreen hit featuring his father Rishi Kapoor. It is an amazing remix which has retained the charm of the original and features the voices of Kishore Kumar and his son Sumit Kumar. It has a fabulous video featuring beauties Bipasha, Deepika and Minishha and Ranbir Kapoor. With lyrics like Tujhse log kahenge na kar pyaar mujhe/main toh lakh bura hu/neend chura lu, hosh uda/baato hi baton mein/do mulakaton mein le lu/Bachna ae haseeno/lo main aa gaya, it is a cautionary tale but we throw caution to the winds every time we hit the dance floor at the familiar sound of the trumpet. The lilting and very romantic Khuda Jaane is one of the most adorable songs we have heard this year. The movie may not have been great shakes but Bachna ae Haseeno featuring Ranbir has recreated the magic of Bachna ae Haseeno featuring dad Rishi.

Harry Baweja makes Mumbai world class

Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050, which depicts a futuristic Mumbai, has attracted the attention of the Remaking of Mumbai Federation

Glass-facade highrises, skywalks, hovercrafts, monorail flyovers, freeways and flying cars criss-crossing the city... these are the images of Mumbai that filmmaker Harry Baweja depicts in Love Story 2050.

Though the producer-director is taking recourse to special effects from an Australian company to recreate the city 42 years from now the Remaking of Mumbai Federation hopes to translate this celluloid image of the city into reality.

Developers fancy it

Love Story 2050, which is slated for a July release, is Baweja’s son Harman’s launch pad. The movie’s trailers were released last week and the film’s publicity posters and trailers have caught the fancy of the city’s developers.

Says Baweja, “I was approached by the Remaking of Mumbai Federation. They have evinced keen
interest in how we have portrayed the metropolis and I have offered to help in whatever way I can.”

In dialogue

Lalit Gandhi, chairman of the Federation, adds, “When we saw the film’s images, we were interested in knowing how the city had been depicted. We got in touch with the film’s makers to have a dialogue with them.”

Love Story 2050 has recreated the future through technology around Mumbai’s prominent landmarks. “There was no point showing any futuristic city and saying this is what Mumbai would look five decades on. To make it believable, we have taken places like Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Gateway of India and changed the landscapes,” explains Baweja.

Untouched

He adds, “The Flora Fountain statue and heritage buildings remain. That cannot be touched as it is quintessentially Mumbai. So also with the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal hotel; but around it, structural changes unfold.”

The director offers Dubai and Hong Kong as examples. These cities have changed their skylines over the years. “If all us make concerted efforts, we can make Mumbai better.”

Adds Mayank Gandhi, secretary of the Federation, “Love Story 2050 is a fantasy, we hope to make it a reality.”
