News: Bollywood’s joint family secret

It is hard to find joint families with the recent trend in nuclear families becoming more appealing. However, Bollywood seems to prefer the traditional extended family all under one roof. ‘A family that stays together eats together and prays together’. Here’s a lowdown of the top five families in Bollywood that have that special bond which keeps the family strongly together.

Kapoors believe in continuing the legacy that the older generations have left. Ranbir is the fourth generation of the Kapoor khandaan and still continues to stay with his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor in their ancestral house, Krishna Kunj in Pali Hill. The tradition of celebrating Ganeshotsav started by Raj Kapoor at R.K.Studios continues till date. Last year, the Ganesh Visarjan saw Ranbir playing the dholak for the visarjan.

Ranbir is surely following his grandfathers words that, “The show must go on”

The Roshans are a closely-knit family that believes in staying together. The one festival that the whole family likes to celebrate together is Ganeshotsav. It is celebrated in the Roshan house and Hrithik makes it a point to go for the visarjan at Juhu Chowpatty irrespective of the fear of getting mobbed by the general public.

'We are the Roshans and will always be that!'

This is one spiritual family in Bollywood and they do not need any introduction. Yes, they are the Bachchans. “The Bachchan family sits together for their prayers. They make it a point to seek the blessings of the almighty before they venture into anything of great importance,” informs a source close to the family.

'United we do all things that’s what we all are about'

The Mukherjees live the traditional Bengali lifestyle and the women in the family are always seen draped in a saree. On the occasion of Durgapuja, the entire Mukherjee family visit the nearest Podar Hall in Santacruz and seek the blessings of the Maa Durga.

‘Aamar Sansar, the best’ is what Krishna Mukherjee seems to be saying

There is yet another Kapoor family that stays, prays and eats together. Well known as the jumping jack, Jeetendra says jokingly, “We are together for 24 hours of the day.” He goes on to add “Since Tushaar and Ekta have their own responsibilities, it becomes difficult to manage time as a family. However, every month, we make it a point to perform the purnima puja together at home”.

It’s truly a Kahaani Kapoor Parivaar Kii

Big B’ s petrified!

One wouldn’t ever think that a superstar like Amitabh Bachchan would be worried about any aspect of film making. But it seems he is.

“Petrified ! Songs have always been a nightmare for me,” writes big B.

The actor writes about filming for a climax song for his upcoming film Aladdin. Since the film involves a whole lot of special effects, Bachchan uses his blog to tell his fans all about how this is achieved.

“The story is contemporary but set in a fantasy world of make belief. The one feature that you do notice in both the stills is the green backdrop with little red marks on them. These are where digitally images will be filled in later. Green backdrops are used when greater depth or volume is required and when they cannot be physically built. So a minimal construction is set up, actors act around it and imagine that there is a lot more to it.

There are photographs too of another sequence - the genie atop a snow mountain. There is a lot of blue that surrounds the image. This is all cloth where digitally snowy peaks and a large mountain will be filled in. And you would never know the difference. I mean now you would, because you have been told of it, but in general it is seldom noticed,” explains the actor.

SRK holds a special place in Rani’s life

The superb actor of Bollywood Rani Mukherjee holds Shahrukh in high esteem as he has helped her lot in her professional life and had never touted her as a newcomer during Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and guided her in every step. She placed him in the top list of her favorites and considered him to be a perfect guide.

Rani had a successful pairing with Shahrukh in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Chalte Chalte, Veer Zaara and Paheli. She is a great admirer of King Khan and said, "I respect his dedication and the extra effort he puts towards his work. I still learn a lot from him.” Though she has not signed any film opposite with him, Rani is looking forward to work with him again if some interesting project comes along her way.

She is very much excited about her forthcoming film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic where she is playing the role of an angel opposite Saif Ali Khan. She has acted opposite Saif in Hum Tum and Tara Rum Pum and expressed her experience working with him to be awesome.

Movie Review - DHOOM DADAKKA

Rating 1.5/5
Comedies are the flavor of the season and more and more film-makers are following the formula re-invented by David Dhawan and Priyadarshan. Entertainment is the key word, while a logical story goes out of the window. Shashi Ranjan's new outing DHOOM DADAKKA tries to recreate the hungama and gets it quite right in the first hour as well, but it's on a slippery wicket thereafter.Problem kya hain? Let's not look at the plotline, but the funny situations fail to evoke mirth. In fact, the entertaining moments don't work after a point. Unlike the first hour, which packs in quite a bit in terms of substance and laughs, things slide downwards soon after the intermission.

DHOOM DADAKKA could've created a mini-dhoom with its entertainment quotient, but the writers play the villain here! Through his weird ways, Johnny English gets hold of an NRI [Sammir Dattani], who claims to be Kamal. Johnny takes him to Bangkok but, to his shock, finds another guy [Shaad Randhawa] there, who also claims to be Kamal. While this confusion is on, Shivani [Aarti Chhabria] arrives on the scene claiming to be the real Kamal.

A confused Mungi asks all of them to stay in the house till he arrives at a decision as to who the real Kamal is. In the ensuing drama enters the second girl Jiya [Shama Sikander], who claims to be a girlfriend of the NRI Kamal. Is one of them the real waaris?

That Shashi Ranjan has a flair for comedies is evident at several points in the first hour. Together with the dialogue writer Ashwani Dhir, Shashi succeeds in making you laugh at the funniest of situations and silliest of jokes. That's where the director triumphs. Note the portions involving Satish Kaushik and Deepshikha or the three youngsters claiming to be Anupam Kher's nephew. Shashi changes gears and uses the brakes like a seasoned driver.

But the car runs out of fuel as you munch popcorn and relish the samosa after the interval. In terms of script, a number of questions remain unanswered even after the show has concluded. Besides, the second hour is an exercise in boredom and gets unbearable after a point. The climax is also a major hotchpotch.

Roopkumar Rathod's music is unlike what he has composed so far. It's easy on the lips and quite catchy. The title track as also 'Ishq Ka Rog Laga' [filmed on the seductive Aarti Chhabria] stand out. Ashwani K's cinematography is perfect, although the director and the DoP haven't captured the beauty of Bangkok to the optimum.

DHOOM DADAKKA doesn't demand histrionics, but given the genre of the film, the two boys - Sammir Dattani and Shaad Randhawa - handle their parts well. Sammir also dances well in the title track, while Shaad mimics the top actors quite well. Aarti and Shama are more of eye candies.

Of the supporting cast, Satish Kaushik is excellent, while Deepshikha exudes tremendous confidence. Anupam Kher is, as always, first-rate. Satish Shah is equally convincing. Gulshan Grover does well. Newcomer Zac has an inconsequential role. Jackie Shroff is just okay. Razzak Khan does a fine job.

On the whole, DHOOM DADAKKA could've been a decent timepass flick, but it misses the bus.
