The films starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif have often churned out musical chartbusters. Priyadarshan’s new offering De Dana Dan may also fall in the same category.
So is it another album from a hit music director? Pritam is consistently delivering hit after hit, though his last release All The Best was not up to the mark. Nevertheless, the Bong musician continues to create stirring tunes for music buffs. Here is ‘De Dana Dan’, the album features six originals and six remixes.
Rishte Naate in the voice of Rahat Fatah Ali Khan is a must-hear number and this is because of the innocence that runs through the song that is not high on bass and is lucid. Pritam and Rahat know how to mesmerize the listeners. But the mandatory remix version crooned by Kunal Ganjawala fails to lure us like the original.
RDB ft Pritam’s Paisa Paisa sounds so much like an Akshay Kumar song. In fact, the little inspiration from Usher’s song ‘Yeah’ makes it no different. The song reminds of numbers from Singh Is Kinng, Welcome and many other Akki’s films. The varied use of sound effects with slight R&B touch makes it a typical upbeat Punjabi track though lyrics are funny and the club mix is just another disc number.
The track De Dana Dan oozes energy with each beat. The song, by a new group Ad boys, does justice to the title. It has the potential of being a hit.
If you start singing Gale Lag Ja with Banjyotsana who sounds just like Alisha Chinoy then it’s not your fault. The song with a Spanish zing and simple music is an enticing number. Javed Ali again gets to sing a love song and does it with ease. Ooh la la! The song turns into a saucy lounge number with its Version 2; makes you feel nocturnal.
The song Baamulaiza gets you into a groovy mood; this hindi salsa number is peppy & perky. The duo of Mika and Dominique Cerejo adds to the celebratory mood of the album. The remix version sounds no different but its Raaga mix sets you in lively mood. Viviente!
Well, north Indians are going to love this song or not, it’s up to them, but Pritam has deviously picked the immensely popular Haryanavi song Hat Ja Tau Pacche Ne for creating the funny song Hotty Naughty. However, the cheery feel of the song will work in its favour. Hotty Naughty remix is an average version.
Pritam is undoubtedly the most bankable music director nowadays, but with so many films in hand he is certainly losing his creativity and we miss the Pritam of Metro or say Jab We Met.
The songs of ‘De Dana Dan’ are not the ones that can excite you for a long time. Not to worry! The songs will pick up by the time the movie releases and will hit the charts as the way expected. The Indian songs with Spanish feel can just set your mood for some tango and salsa.
