Waheeda Rahman, the eternal rebel!

'Kaaton se kheench ke ye aanchal, Tod ke bandhan bandhi payal'', the timeless classic from Dev Anand's GUIDE, sung by the nightingale Lata Mangeshkar, has become synonymous with the ageless beauty, Waheeda Rahman. However, not many will know that this song reflects her attitude to life also. We will give you the reason as to why and it comes from none other than Waheeda herself, who spoke about her life in general while talking to a select section of the press at the Taj City, Agra.

We had told you a couple of days back that Waheeda Rahman was in the City Of love, Agra, participating in the shooting of the Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor starrer, DILLI 6. Talking to the press, Waheeda revealed that she has always been a rebel. As she came from a traditional, conservative Muslim family, working in films was considered a taboo in those days. But, she always followed her heart.

Since acting was in her veins she used to perform in school plays. Not many will know that she was spotted by a prominent film personality (during those days) during one of her school functions! She was also a trained classical dancer and the combination made her foray into films easier. She also added that she had faced a lot of obstacles in her desire to achieve a foothold in the film industry. She further elaborated and said that her father was an IAS officer and in fact both her parents were very cooperative and encouraging.

Well, Waheeda ji, here's wishing you many more years of Bollywood!
